I met Claire at a show at Mercury Lounge back in (I believe) 2022, when she first moved to New York. We hit it off pretty quickly and hung out for most of the night, but as life goes we both got busy and didn’t end up seeing each other as much as we had hoped we would. A while later, we sat down over some hummus to catch up and she told me about this new girl she was seeing. She talked about how special Romi was, how they immediately connected. There was however, a bit of a situation: Romi was only planning to be in Brooklyn for a couple of months. Romi had been living in Hawaii for a while and before heading back home to Israel, decided she would make a stop in Brooklyn to stay with and see some friends.
and of course, as all great love stories go, this short stopover is when Claire and Romi happened to meet.
Fast forward to today: since they first met, these two haven’t spent more than two months apart. Romi did go back to Israel and enroll in school like she had planned, but a short while later, Claire followed. Since then, they’ve been traveling back and forth between Tel Aviv and NYC, and adventuring wherever else they’re able along the way. My girlfriend and I make a point to try to see them at least once every time we’re in Tel Aviv, and of course Claire and Romi always invite us out for coffee when they’re here.
So, when Claire reached out and told me that her and Romi wanted to have some photos of them taken, I was beyond stoked. One of my most cherished practices is documenting people in a way that feels like meeting up with an old friend, so being able to actually photograph a friend of mine and the love she’s found was so beyond special.
