I've been traveling for as long as I can remember.
The majority of my family lives overseas, which means that my childhood was spent split between two homes. I spent my school year in New York City and my summers in cow sheds surrounded by olive groves and avocado trees.
My mom was the one who always loved to travel. My dad went along, and was always excited about where we ended up, but the driving force to do it came from her. So every summer on our way to spend almost three months in the dry desert heat, we stopped wherever the flight layover gods decided for us. By fifteen I had been to England, Italy, Iceland, Russia, Turkey, and many more. I didn't have the privilege to travel in the US until a bit later, though, and I was always mystified by the photos of snowy mountains and red rock canyons that I saw from friends who had hiked them. When I was 23, I decided that it was time. I bought a rooftop tent off of Facebook marketplace, sold most of what I owned and packed up the rest, and headed north. My dog Apollo and I had the time of our lives over those four months- and checked around 33 states off of our list. Since returning to New York in late 2022, I've been trying to find my way back to my nomadic days, and It looks like that day is finally arriving later this year.
